NEW SHADE CLOTH AND PLAY EQUIPMENT FOR LOCAL PARKS

From 2009: It can be a frustrating wait for residents with young children who have requested shade cloth for their neighbourhood park. However, two more local parks have been provided with shade cloth by Council’s Park’s team. The Llewellyn Street Park in Bentley Park and Milky Pine Park on Anderson Road in Bayview Heights have been the most recent parks to be funded for shade cover.

Cr. Pyne said, “I have had several requests for shade cloth on parks in Forest Gardens. Unfortunately, this development was approved ‘just before’ shade cover became a mandatory requirement imposed on all new developments. This means the long-suffering ratepayer will have to foot the bill. So while I am working with staff to cover swings in these parks as well, limits on our budget mean it will not happen anytime soon.” However, he added “On a positive note it has been a welcome development to see new swings and play equipment in Harlequin Street and Bak Park in White Rock.

Hook Turn for Cyclists Makes Crossing Safer

Have you been wondering about the green paint on the bike lanes on some of the intersections in the city? It is to help cyclists turn safely, using a ‘hook turn’. If you are interested, please check out the Department of Main Road’s Fact Sheet at this website: Main Roads – A first for Cairns Bicycle Riders – Hook Turn Storage Boxes (150kb)

Stop Press: Cyclists wanting to make a right turn at the Mulgrave Road/Severin Street intersection can perform a hook manoeuvre by using the new hook turn storage boxes.

Planet Ark Tree Day Celebrated in Mt Sheridan in 2009.

Belated congratulations to the residents of Cliff Close in Mt Sheridan for participating in planting trees the Sunday before last to celebrate Planet Ark National Tree Day.

The photos shown below show residents participating and having a good time. Taipans player Ian Crosswhite also participated, putting his back into it to dig a few holes for some of the Council supplied Golden Penda trees.
