Cairns Amateurs Carnival is Here!
3rd and 4th September 2010
Cannon Park in Woree
The city’s annual signature social event, and one of Australia’s leading Spring horse racing carnivals, the Cairns Amateurs is a Cairns institution on the final weekend of the Festival.

The Cairns Amateurs Racing Carnival, held in early September each year, began as a small meeting in 1959. Back then all jockeys were amateurs (unpaid) and that is how the event draws its name.
It was designed to bring city and country together in the Far North, and has expanded over the years to become one of Australia’s premier horse racing destinations.
The Carnival operates over four days of celebrations, focusing around two days of horse racing and complemented by a host of social activities — some formal and some very informal.
The gathering attracts locals and visitors to the region, and has something for everyone – horse racing, fashion, socialising and celebrities. Social events include Members-only and corporate functions over the four days, as well as events and areas for the general public on both race days. The beautiful mild September climate entices large crowds to enjoy the racing and entertainment conducted at the course.
Don’t miss this Far North tradition, and major event of the Cairns Festival final weekend.
