I for one think this project is far to expensive. A lot of money spent on a select few members of the community, resulting in the entire community footing the bill for years. I would much rather see footpaths and infrastructure that benefit all of us. This project never should have gotten this far. Just people trying to make a name for them selves, selfish and ridiculous. millions wasted !!!

This is a golden opportunity that shouldn’t be wasted. It would also be extremely unfair to terminate the contracts of local firms, who have already been engaged.

Tony have you read the QTC report on the project? I doubt it.
It doesn’t matter if the CEP is given to us it’s the annual operating costs starting at $8.5m that is unaffordable. It locks in 6.5% rate rises for the next 10 years (at least 2x the inflation rate) giving council no flexibilty in the event of an economic melt down or the need to fund other projects.

All we need is a replacement performing arts centre not an extravagant precinct with a plaza on a site which the CRC’s own business plan admits comes “(commercially) burdened by the heritage-listed White’s Shed”.

Instead of complaining why not direct your energies towards working with the new council on the 2 realistic and affordable options Manning has presented for examination?

Looking a gift horse in the mouth and then sending it to the knackery! How many of the Councillors would reject a gift of thousands of dollars for their son, daughter, spouse, charity? Yet this is what they are doing for the people of Cairns when they reject the $40 Million injection into the economy from the Federal Government. The dead economy of Cairns needs something NOW!
